WCMRC is hiring a Temporary Full-Time Spill Response Technician – Deckhand (6-month contract) to join our spill response team in Nanaimo, B.C.
Our spill response team is comprised of professionals with diverse skills and experience. Their ability to effectively manage and direct spill response procedures within the first few hours after response activation significantly reduces the negative impacts oil can have on the surrounding environment. On a spill site, WCMRC personnel work to ensure that the situation is thoroughly assessed, response strategies are carefully devised, and resultant countermeasures are quickly deployed.
Spill Response Technician Deckhands are responsible for:

Provide safe, prompt and efficient support to spill incidents, exercises and preparedness projects.

Act as a Deckhand on Spill Response Vessels.

Act as Master of small vessels.

Maintain spill response equipment to ensure all equipment is operational and response ready at all times.

Complete assigned work orders, vessel runs, annual equipment refits, vessel dry docking, and assist with regulatory inspections, i.e. Transport Canada Vessel Inspections and Class Inspections.

Conduct inventory checks of warehouse, vessels and trailers.

Provide training to our new hires/ casuals/ contractors.

Work on project teams and committees.

Compliance with Canada Labour Code and Canada Shipping Act during spill and non-spill activities.

Interact positively with the public and other stakeholders.

Other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will possess a high school diploma, must be physically fit for work at sea in calm and rough waters and be capable of lifting and carrying up to 50lbs on a regular basis. Candidate must also be willing and able to work outdoors under inclement weather, hold a Class 5 driver’s license in good standing, possess a valid passport and be eligible to travel to the United States.
The following are considered assets: Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP), Radio Operators Certificate (ROC-M), Marine Emergency Duties (MED A1/A3) certificate, previous experience with marine and small power equipment maintenance, Small Vessel Machinery Operator (SVMO) and working knowledge of local coastlines, and emergency response training. You also need to be a collaborative team player who thrives on coordinating and interacting with multiple people and be comfortable managing shifting priorities.

JOB OVERVIEW
Under the direction of the Manager of Cancer Prevention, the Tobacco Cessation Senior Specialist will support the service delivery and promotion of Talk Tobacco services in British Columbia. This project will serve First Nations, Inuit, Métis, and urban Indigenous peoples and will be implemented in partnership with the First Nations Health Authority.
Talk Tobacco aims to reduce commercial tobacco use among Indigenous populations. The Tobacco Cessation Senior Specialist will work in partnership with the First Nations Health Authority to support the delivery and promotion of culturally appropriate commercial tobacco cessation telephone and online services for Indigenous populations. Talk Tobacco services are currently offered in Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia.
When we speak of reducing tobacco use, we are referring to the use of commercial tobacco. We recognize and respect that Traditional tobacco is different from commercial tobacco. Traditional tobacco is a sacred medicine meant to be used as a way of healing and is an important part of culture and spiritual connectedness for many Indigenous people.
This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) contract position for one year with a possibility of extension and can be based anywhere in British Columbia. This position will:
1. provide counseling and support to Indigenous clients in the process of quitting or reducing smoking and/or vaping by telephone, text, and live chat.
2. promote awareness of services and develop referral partnerships with relevant health and social service providers serving Indigenous people (25.5 hours per week).
This position will contribute to the health recommendations in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action (2015) that calls for the establishment of measurable goals to identify and close the gaps in health outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities in consultation with Indigenous peoples, and will be grounded in the rights of Indigenous peoples to live in dignity, and maintain and strengthen their own cultures and traditions as outlined in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
Services Provision:
• Provides counseling, in a culturally relatable and supportive manner, integrating with the principles of Motivational Interviewing, to Indigenous people in the process of quitting smoking (commercial tobacco) and vaping by telephone, live chat, and text.
• Provides referral suggestions for individuals who require other information or community resources regarding smoking and vaping cessation.
• Moderates an online discussion forum.
• Follows established protocols for service delivery and data entry.
• Engages in ongoing learning and skill development.
• Works with confidential issues and client data.
• Flexibility to provide services outside of regular business hours, up to 9:00 pm two evenings per week.

Services Promotion:
• Develop and implement presentations and promotional initiatives to promote awareness and uptake of Talk Tobacco services.
• Leads partnership development and maintains strong partner relationships ensuring ongoing communication and the development of referral relationships with health care and social service providers.
• Supports the evaluation and reporting of the Talk Tobacco program in British Columbia.
• Works closely with Talk Tobacco Senior Specialists in other provinces/territories to share best practices, learning, and continual program improvement.
In addition:
• Works in compliance with the provisions of The Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations and complies with the Society’s Health & Safety Policy.
• Actively contribute to our culture of justice, belonging, equity, diversity, and inclusion by ensuring that all staff feel represented and heard regardless of their gender, age, religion, ethnicity, nationality, or race.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: 
• Related post-secondary education in the field of health promotion, health sciences, community development, or social work and/or a combination of two to three years of education and experience in similar positions.
• Demonstrated experience with and understanding of, British Columbia’s First Nations, Inuit, Métis, and urban Indigenous histories and cultures, and health/socio-economic issues/needs.
• Strong counseling skills and knowledge of behavior change theory concerning commercial tobacco.
• Proven project coordination, collaboration, and organizational skills, with experience supporting projects through all facets of the project life cycle.
• Expertise in effectively working with Indigenous partners and stakeholders and knowledge of Indigenous governments and organizations.
• Experience working in and/or familiarity with cancer prevention, chronic disease prevention, or related health areas.
• Demonstrated knowledge of health promotion approaches and strategies related to commercial tobacco control is an asset.
• Experience working with diverse and complex client groups, including clients living with mental health conditions, substance dependency, trauma, and/or chronic disease.

We are currently seeking a Facilities Coordinator to join our team.

The Facilities Coordinator supports the Facilities department and is responsible for coordinating, organizing, and documenting facilities services activities and initiatives, including branch and regional office maintenance and non-capital projects. Here’s what would be included as a part of your typical day

Communication: Acts as day-to-day point of contact for branch and regional office teams for all Facilities related issues. Arranges responses to all service calls and work order requests for the region to ensure timely resolution of requests. Maintains close coordination and open communication with other departments/functions to ensure resolution of problems, issues, and challenges. Builds good working relationships within all departments to understand needs and expectations.
Repair and Maintenance: Arranges for regular maintenance and operations of building systems and equipment including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing. With the support of the Operations Manager, troubleshoots maintenance issues, obtains quotes, and arranges for service. Provides work progress updates and follow up. Coordinates the maintenance of company-wide vehicle fleet and parking space allocation. Checks rooms and furniture to identify needs for repairs or renovations and coordinates office moves. Coordinate, and/or perform monthly or periodic inspections of properties and buildings.
Security and Incidents: Responsible for the physical security of all facilities in the region including alarms, cameras, guards, card access system, keys, locks, and other related equipment. Ensures fire code compliance through inspection and maintenance of fire safety systems. Coordinates security contractors, locksmiths, and assists with Health and Safety initiatives to ensure compliance. Coordinates incident response and communication, key management, and documentation.
Contract Management: Manages and monitors the performance of third-party contractors including landscaping, waste, janitorial, and other service providers. Implements and follows procurement and privacy policies. Coordinates use of outside services and contractors, as required.
Administration Record Keeping: Maintains records of inspections and maintenance. Maintains and implements the company’s document management system for facilities-related documents, such as work procedures and guidelines. Orders and restocks supplies for administration offices’ kitchens and washrooms. Coordinates facility permits and environmental regulations.
Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications
