Ma Nîķi Seniors Home Renovation Program

The Ma Nîķi Seniors Home Renovation Program offers low-income Métis citizen homeowners financial assistance to renovate their homes, ensuring safety, improving livability, and allowing seniors to age in place with dignity. This program provides a once-per-lifetime non-repayable grant of up to $20,000 per household to support eligible renovations.

Program Overview

The program is designed to address critical home improvement needs such as mobility modifications, structural repairs, energy efficiency upgrades, and other essential enhancements. Priority may be given to applicants with urgent health and safety needs.

Program Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria as detailed in the Program Handbook (see below):

  • Métis Citizenship: Applicants must be MNBC Citizens, verified by a copy of their MNBC Citizenship Card or confirmation from the MNBC Citizenship Ministry.
  • Residency: Applicants must have been residents of British Columbia for at least one year, verified by a Government of BC-issued photo ID (e.g., BCID or valid Driver’s License).
  • Age Requirement: At least one property title holder must be aged 60 or older.
  • Income Limit: Applicants must demonstrate a total gross annual household income below $46,000 (single) or $66,000 (couple). Proof of income must be provided using the most current Notice of Assessment (2023) from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
  • Property Ownership: The property must be owned and occupied by the applicant as their principal residence. Eligible properties include single-family homes, apartments, condos, duplexes, row homes, townhomes, co-ops, mobile homes, or modular homes (subject to the Manufactured Home Park Tenancy Act). 

Homes on First Nations land are not eligible currently; however, some exceptions apply.

Additional Benefits

Applicants may also be referred to other provincial rebate programs, such as the FortisBC Energy Conservation Assistance Program (ECAP), for free home energy evaluations and upgrades.

Renovations in multi-unit buildings (e.g., condos, townhouses) are limited to the interior of the applicant’s unit and may require permission or permits before starting work.
