Migratory Birds Survey

Hunting, fishing, trapping and getting out on the land were key to the Métis way of life throughout history. They remain important to Métis culture today and there are active Métis harvesters found throughout every region in British Columbia. Harvesting is also a measured and carefully considered practice: we aim to be good stewards and harvest sustainably.

Collecting data around these practices is important as it informs conservation efforts and paints a picture of the harvester demographic. The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change & Food Security currently has a survey open to collect data on the harvesting of migratory birds - please complete and share widely! There is an option to enter into a prize draw at the end.

Migratory Birds Survey

If you are a BC resident and have harvested (or attempted to harvest) migratory birds in the last three years, this survey is for you. You do not have to be an MNBC Harvester Card holder to complete it. MNBC shares the data with the Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS) to ensure the long-term health and sustainability of this valuable resource. Wildlife managers use the data from hunter reports to understand how many birds are harvested, how much effort is being put into hunting, and how this impacts their populations.
