Join the Ministry of Culture, Heritage and Language and the Amelia Douglas Institute for another session in the Métis Culture Talks series: Resistances and Resilience with Jean Teillet

Resistance is woven into the fabric of the Métis Nation, from the Red River and North-West Resistances to present-day fights for rights, recognition, and cultural survival.

We are honoured to welcome Jean Teillet, renowned Métis author, artist, and great grandniece of Louis Riel, for a virtual workshop that exploring how resistance has shaped, and continues to shape, Métis history. Drawing on her historical research and her deep personal connection to the Métis resistance story, Jean will take us on a journey through key moments of Métis resistance, and what they mean for Métis people today.

In this virtual talk, Jean will discuss:

  • The roots of Métis resistance and collective action
  • The historical context and significance of the Red River Resistance and North-West Resistance
  • How the legacy of the Red River Resistance and the North-West Resistance have shaped modern Métis realities
  • The resilience of the Métis Nation

Through historical insight and contemporary reflections, Jean will highlight how the spirit of resistance continues to shape Métis experiences across generations. We are excited for this opportunity to learn from one of the most celebrated voices in Métis law and history!
