About the Opportunity
This position is offered through the Canada Summer Jobs program and is a great opportunity for students or youth looking to gain hands-on experience in a professional, team-based environment.
You will support the development and implementation of HR policies, programs, and procedures, while assisting with employee inquiries related to compensation and benefits.
The role involves collecting and analyzing compensation data, supporting job classification and job descriptions, and assisting with job family and pay structure development. You will also conduct research on market trends, participate in salary benchmarking, and help prepare reports and summaries to support HR decision-making.
This role offers valuable, practical experience for those interested in Human Resources with a focus on compensation and job evaluation, or administrative careers.
As per Canada Summer Jobs program requirements, candidates must be:
- Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at start of employment
- A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or a person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Legally entitled to work according to BC legislation and regulation.
- International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
Job Duties
- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate HR strategies, policies, programs, and procedures to meet organizational needs
- Advise employees on human resources policies, compensation, and benefits programs
- Research and develop job classifications, job descriptions, salary scales, and job family/competency alignments
- Collect and analyze internal and external compensation data to support pay decisions
- Support job evaluation processes, including reviewing job descriptions and assisting with job classification and pay structures
- Conduct compensation research and track internal and external pay trends
- Assist with market benchmarking and salary surveys to support job pricing
- Prepare reports, charts, and dashboards summarizing compensation data and insights for HR and leadership teams
- Use and adapt to various technologies (e.g., Word, Excel, databases, and other software)
- Handle sensitive information with confidentiality
- Collaborate effectively in an office and team environment (experience considered an asset)
Education
- College diploma/University degree in related field.
