WW2 Veteran Spousal Recognition Payment



Today, on behalf of Metis National Council Veterans Minister David Chartrand, Dave Armitt, Métis Veterans British Columbia Committee Chair, presented a compensation cheque to WWII Métis Veteran surviving spouse Mrs. Frances Sybil Bruce, in Chilliwack BC.

Sybil is the wife of Métis Veteran Edward Bruce who joined the the Canadian Army at 18 years of age and served during WWII in France and Germany with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles.

Today’s presentation is a part of Phase 2 of the WWII Métis Veterans Legacy Program where Métis Veterans or surviving spouses receive compensation and a formal apology for the treatment and inadequate support of Métis Veterans upon their return to Canada after the war.
