About the Opportunity
This position is offered through the Canada Summer Jobs program and is a great opportunity for students or youth looking to gain hands-on experience in a professional, team-based environment.
You will assist in developing and maintaining relationships with suppliers and partners, sourcing goods and services, and supporting the purchasing and delivery of materials.
The role involves reviewing supplier quotations, coordinating logistics and delivery schedules, maintaining inventory, and helping ensure timely distribution of resources. You will also support the development and implementation of procurement strategies, including engagement with Métis artists and vendors to support culturally relevant materials for education and early learning.
This role offers valuable, practical experience for those interested in procurement, vendor relations, and project coordination, or administrative careers.
As per Canada Summer Jobs program requirements, candidates must be:
- Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at start of employment
- A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or a person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Legally entitled to work according to BC legislation and regulation.
- International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
Job Duties
- Develop and maintain relationships with existing and prospective buyers and suppliers
- Purchase general and specialized equipment, materials, services, and land or access rights as required
- Assess organizational needs and develop specifications for goods, equipment, and supplies
- Issue tenders, consult with suppliers, and evaluate quotations
- Coordinate delivery logistics, monitor progress, and resolve issues with clients and suppliers
- Coordinate the development and procurement of Métis-specific cultural resources for the Ministry of Education
- Develop and implement procurement, storage, and distribution strategies for cultural and educational materials
- Maintain inventory levels of Métis-specific early learning and cultural resources
- Source and engage reliable suppliers, vendors, and Métis artists
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with vendors, suppliers, and artists
- Negotiate with suppliers and vendors to secure favourable terms
- Coordinate implementation and distribution of resources, including large-scale mailouts and digital access initiatives for Métis communities in B.C.
- Use and adapt to various technologies (e.g., Word, Excel, databases, and other software)
- Handle sensitive information with confidentiality
- Collaborate effectively in an office and team environment (experience considered an asset)
