Sîpihkisôwin: Low Carbon Energy Program

Program Overview

Métis Nation British Columbia is launching a Low Carbon Energy Program called Sîpihkisôwin (see-pihk-so-win), the Northern Michif word meaning Resilience. Sîpihkisôwin will support homeowners in implementing low carbon energy technologies and energy efficiency measures for their homes.

By increasing the adoption of these energy technologies, Sîpihkisôwin seeks to improve affordability and health outcomes while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption for MNBC citizens across British Columbia.

The following low carbon energy and energy efficient technology upgrades will be available for eligible households through Sîpihkisôwin:

  • Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels
  • Space heating & cooling
  • Water heating
  • Air to water heat pump systems
  • Building envelope (e.g. insulation, windows & doors)

Sîpihkisôwin will offer:

  • Up to $20,000 in funding for eligible households earning less than $150,000 in before-tax annual income, and
  • Up to $15,000 in funding for eligible households earning between $150,000 and $200,000 in before-tax annual income.
