Eco Collective 2026: A Michif Collective for Environmental Action

This program is dedicated to empowering Métis youth and young adults in B.C. to explore their environmental passions and drive climate action. Meet other like-minded Michif youth and be a part of an inspiring collective!

Eco Collective 2026 will aim to strengthen Métis cultural knowledge and environmental stewardship by offering youth hands-on learning opportunities through the Guest Speaker Series, Youth-led Eco Initiatives Allowance Projects, and the OceanWise Seaforestation tour. Guided by Elders, Knowledge Carriers, and experts, Youth will lean about traditional harvesting practices, culturally significant plants, conservation, and kelp restoration while building practical skills and deepening their connection to the land and to the water.

About Eco Collective

The Eco Collective is a space for youth to connect with Métis culture, Elders, and cultural protocols. Participants will build meaningful relationships with other Métis youth across BC who share a passion for environmental protection, fostering a greater sense of belonging, purpose, and fulfillment.
Each month, youth will participate in virtual interactive workshops led by industry professionals and Métis Knowledge Keepers. These guest speaker sessions are designed to support participants' well-being, develop leadership and communication skills, and help youth make a tangible difference in their community. The Eco Collective will allow participants to access training that will support their learning topics they're passionate about and important skills to help the environment.

By joining the Eco Collective, you'll gain access to exciting opportunities designed to help you grow, make a difference in your community, and explore your environmental passions. Here's what to look forward to:
Youth-Led Eco Initiatives Allowance
Members of the Eco Collective can apply for an allowance (up to $450) to support their own environmental initiatives. These funds can be used for equipment and other costs associated with projects that aim to make a difference in the community. Projects may include, but are not limited to:
- Community clean-ups
- Tree plantings
- Community and home gardens
- Recycling initiatives
This is your chance to lead meaningful projects and put your ideas into action!
Volunteer Honorarium
Be rewarded for your time and dedication to making a positive impact on the environment and your community. Participants can earn honoraria by contributing volunteer hours, which can be completed through a variety of activities such as attending monthly virtual sessions, webinars, and engaging in individual or collaborative projects. We encourage you to get involved in ways that fit your schedule and align with your environmental passions!
- 25 hours = $150 honorarium
- 50 hours = $300 honorarium
- 70 hours = $500 honorarium
Meet BCMANR Captains & Métis Elders
As a participant, you'll have unique opportunities to engage with BCMANR Captains and Métis Elders throughout the program. These engagements may include group discussions, Q&A sessions, and hands-on activities aimed at fostering knowledge-sharing and cultivating deeper connections to Métis culture and the land. These interactions will allow you to learn directly from community leaders and cultural knowledge keepers.
1. Who is eligible for the Eco Collective?
Those between the ages of 15-30 who live in BC and self-identify as Métis or are MNBC Citizens. The program is designed for participants who are interested in learning about the environment and climate action, whether they're already passionate about these issues or just starting to explore them.
2. Where will the Eco Collective take place?
The Eco Collective will meet virtually on Zoom (dates coming). At the end of the Eco Collective, we will meet in person for the Youth Eco Camp to celebrate all the hard work the participants have done throughout the program!
3. What topics will be discussed at the monthly virtual meetings?
When participants apply for the collective, they will be asked to share their top three topics of interest from the following list:
- Food Security
- Climate Change
- Biodiversity
- Conservation
- Emergency Preparedness and Management
- Species at Risk
- Other
The schedule will be tailored based on the topics participants select during the application process. This ensures that the sessions closely align with participants' interests and priorities.
