Métis Youth Role Model Campaign 2023

In January 2023, Métis Youth British Columbia (MYBC) announced the 9th Annual Métis Youth Role Model Campaign. The campaign focuses on youth achievements and celebrates Métis Youth role models in our Métis communities. Métis Youth Role Models promote healthy lifestyles, Métis culture and awareness; strengthen Métis identity and are actively involved in their community. In order to be eligible, Métis Youth Role Models must be between the ages of 15 and 30 and live in B.C.

The MYBC Council evaluated and selected five (5) new Métis Youth Role Models from all the eligible submissions received for 2023. The recipients will receive $300 honoraria for their outstanding service and cultural representation in the community. Congratulations to the Recipients of the Métis Youth Role Model Awards

Dylan Oliarny

“This winter a senior was looking to hire someone to chop and stack firewood and Dylan took his team out there and did it all for her for free. .. It's really endless, but I can say he's an excellent role model for so many in this community! We need more people like him in the world!”

Jordan Johnson

Jordan has contributed many volunteer hours to a variety of causes, most recently walking stray dogs at an animal rescue shelter. Other examples include distributing meals and clothing to those in need, helping the Metis Nation of Greater Victoria design a new website, and helping out at Island Health COVID vaccination clinics. I know he will inspire other Metis youth as well.”

Faith Vaughan

"Faith is a very passionate beader, and often teaches others how to bead with different beading circles. She is an incredible artist and singer - this past year Faith was sponsored by MNBC as an artist to perform in Batoche. She's an incredible leader who does a lot for our community and has a lot of passion.“

Emma Penner

"Emma is an athlete and figure skates competitively and volunteers her time twice a week to teach children to skate. Emma always has a kind word for everyone around her and has a caring and helpful nature. Emma is a genuinely good role model and puts effort into the people in her life and activities she participates in.”

Dakoda Kelm

“Our Metis values are evident in his character - honesty, respect, sharing, tolerance, kindness and patience to name a few. He is very committed to our Metis Community and works hard to promote and celebrate our culture. Dakoda also serves on the R3, Kamloops Two Rivers Metis Chartered Community board as a Youth Rep.
