In recent surveys, we have learned that the majority of our Métis families are accessing informal child care arrangements, through families, friends and neighbours in their homes. Métis Nation British Columbia is offering a 30-hour online course, inclusive of Métis cultural content, that would qualify Métis people to care for up to two children in their home as a Registered License-Not-Required child care provider.

What does it mean to be a Registered Licensed Not Required child care operator?

Registered license-not-required child care providers are unlicensed but have registered with a Child Care Resource and Referral Centre (CCRR). A child care provider can look after a maximum of two children, in addition to those related to them by blood or marriage, without a community care facilities license. This is referred to as license-not-required care or LNR. You can also become a registered license-not-required child care provider or RLNR. You can operate as an RLNR in BC by registering with your local CCRR.

Registered care providers also have access to support, training, resources and group liability insurance through their local Child Care Resource and Referral Centre.

This opportunity supports Métis citizens (or those with active applications with the MNBC registry) to explore a valuable career in caring for young children.  Additionally, it supports Métis families who need access to child care.

This course is designed for students interested in opening their own family child care business. This course meets the current provincial training requirements and incorporates new and up-to-date information regarding Child Care Licensing Regulations and Standards of Practice.
