Funding FAQs
Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training (AEST) funded programs are employment-driven programs that are less than 1 year in duration and cost less than $15,000, that start after October 1, 2022. Only programs that meet this specific criteria are funded. Funding is allocated for specific sectors or courses based on the approval from the Province of BC.
Funding is disbursed based on the date when your application is complete. All applications that were complete were placed in a queue, and some students were not able to receive support due to funding limitations and they were placed on a waitlist. The waitlist is also based on application completion date, so those with an earlier completion date will get funding first.
We are working to find additional sources of funding, but cannot guarantee if and when they will become available. We will communicate with students who are on the waitlist as soon as we have secured additional funding. If you receive funding, you will be removed from the waitlist.
All applications are processed and assessed on a first complete, first served basis. Therefore, those with an earlier application completion date receive funds first. Applications open on February 1st of every year.
Funding is based on MNBC’s fiscal year, which runs from April 1st to March 31st. All funding has been allocated for the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31st, 2023. Students with completed applications for January 2023 will be placed on a waitlist.
AEST funding is for employment-driven specific programs and does not include diploma/degree programs. Applications for funding of diploma and degree programs are currently on a waitlist due to funding limitations. New applications can be submitted on February 1st 2023.

All funding for post-secondary degrees has been allocated. However, funding for certificate programs is being assessed on a case-by-case basis for AEST funding, which is aimed at short-term educational courses.
AEST can fund certain programs under $15,000 based on the criteria identified in question 1. We encourage you to contact your regional office to discuss current opportunities.
If more funding becomes available, students who are on the waitlist will be reimbursed for any payments to educational institutions.
Wrap-around support is designed to provide a subsidy to help “bridge the gap” while a client is actively engaged in training or pursuit of academic endeavours, this subsidy offers financial support towards a client’s cost of living. MNBC may be able to provide wrap-around supports. We encourage you to contact your regional office to discuss the possibility of wrap-around supports.
