January 31, 2022 (Surrey, BC) - Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) is proud to announce that a one-time only funding of $100,000 has been allocated to the Ministry of Education for the creation of a new emergency learning recovery fund to support Métis learners aged 9-18 who are experiencing learning disruptions caused or exasperated by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Covid-19 Learning Recovery Fund was approved as a part of the Covid-19 wave 4 funding provided by Indigenous Services Canada and will act as a short-term extension to the Miyoopimatishihk (Wellbeing) Program, which provides necessary supports to Metis children birth to 8-years-old.
MNBC continues to support its citizens by advocating for their unique needs at both provincial and federal levels, and through the development of direct funding initiatives.
“We are proud to announce the creation of this initiative,” said Debra Fisher, MNBC’s Minister of Education. “These funds will support our Métis learners who have been impacted by the pandemic on their path to achieving successful educational outcomes.”
You can apply for the Covid-19 Learning Recovery Fund through the MNBC Program Portal. Funding is available for MNBC citizens and individuals who have an active application submitted to the MNBC Citizenship Registry. All Funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis and must be used by March 31, 2022.
