On behalf of the MNBC Board of Directors, President Lissa Dawn Smith released the following statement on International Women’s Day:
“Without women, there is no Métis Nation. Women have formed the bedrock of our Nation from inception. They have held our families and communities together, through good times and bad. They have served as knowledge keepers, educators, and so much more.
Women also play such an important role in our governance. Nearly half of our Board is made up of women, and a majority of our Community Presidents and staff at MNBC are women.
From Ameila Douglas to Maria Campbell, Métis women have helped tell our distinct stories as we continue our fight for recognition. Today, let’s reflect on all the contributions that women have, and continue, to make to our Métis Nation.”
