This week, a Métis Nation BC delegation traveled to Ottawa to participate in Permanent Bilateral Mechanism meetings with fellow Governing Members of the Métis National Council. These meetings ensure priority topics identified under the Canada-Métis Nation Accord are addressed with clear commitments that reflect the distinct nature of our Nation. Topics discussed included a Métis claims process, UNDRIP implementation, economic development, international relations, environmental protection, national benefits sharing, health, education, children and families, and languages. Meetings were also arranged to advocate for Métis rights and priorities with Karina Gould, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Anita Anand, Minister of National Defense; plus with senior staff at Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs, Health, Heritage, Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Mental Health and Addictions. Dinner meetings were also held with Randeep Sarai, Member of Parliament for Surrey Centre and opposition members of parliament.
