MNBC has Purchased 4617 Grieg Avenue in Terrace, BC

Terrace, BC – Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) is pleased to announce the successful completion of the purchase of 4617 Greig Avenue in Terrace, BC. This acquisition marks a significant step forward in MNBC's commitment to enhancing community resources and services for Métis citizens in the region.

This property acquisition is made possible by the generous funding from the Government of Canada Indigenous Early Learning and Child Care Program. It exemplifies MNBC's unwavering commitment to expanding access to community-driven child care services for Métis families, embodying our dedication to their well-being and development. Additionally, credit goes to the Government of Canada through the Indigenous Communities Infrastructure Fund and the Canada-Métis Housing Sub-Accord for their crucial support in this initiative. Expressing gratitude for this crucial support, Debra Fisher, MNBC’s Minister of Education, remarked, "We deeply appreciate the unwavering support of the Government of Canada in this endeavor. This investment will enable us to create much-needed resources for Métis families in Terrace, strengthening our community and enhancing opportunities for future generations."

“Métis children deserve to learn their language, culture and traditional teachings. That’s why we’re working with MNBC to expand child care programs and services for Métis families so their children can have the best possible start in life,” said Jenna Sudds, Canada’s Minister of Families, Children and Social Development.

The property, totaling 4.2 acres and nearly a full city block, represents the first of three adjoining parcels that MNBC intends to acquire in Terrace. While the purchase of the remaining parcels at 3111 Kalum Street and 3115 Kalum Street is pending; the City of Terrace will remediate these two remaining parcels subject to an accepted purchase offer by MNBC prior to the close of the sale. MNBC is actively engaged in environmental remediation efforts to ensure the safety and integrity of the sites, and ensuring all cultural protocols are followed.

"We are thrilled about the opportunities that this purchase unlocks for our community," said Bernadette Chaboyer, President of the Northwest BC Métis Association. "The development of these properties will serve as a foundation for expanding our services and leading initiatives that directly benefit Métis citizens in Terrace and beyond," further emphasized Susie Hooper, Northwest Regional Director.

MNBC looks forward to collaborating with Kitselas and Kitsumkalum First Nation communities, along with local partners as it moves forward with the development of the properties.
