MNBC Attends Canada-Métis Nation Permanent Bilateral Mechanism Senior Officials Meeting

This week MNBC attended the Senior Officials meeting in Ottawa alongside governing members Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and the Métis National Council. In attendance, BC representatives included Brent Weberg, Chief Operating Officer, and Russell Brewer, Chief Public Affairs Officer.

These meetings create an open, and regular, dialogue between Canada and the Métis Nation. Overarching topics discussed included working with the government of Canada in a distinctions-based and government-to-government way and providing flexible, long-term, and reliable funding, to empower Métis governments to deliver important services to Métis citizens, and promote Métis rights and prosperity.

Having senior MNBC staff in attendance, speaking to key points, ensures that important issues for Métis in BC are heard and acted on. These bilateral meetings are instrumental in nation-building, continuing the working relationship between Canada and the Métis Nation, and building a stronger Métis Nation Government in British Columbia.
