The Cloverdale Rodeo was host to many groups this past weekend, but none were more unique than the Indigenous Village co-hosted by Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society (LFVAS) and the Waceya Métis Society.
The first-ever Indigenous Village at the Cloverdale Rodeo showcased unique traditional and contemporary art, music, and dance. Métis jiggers from Waceya took part in the rodeo parade on Saturday morning and performed on the Fairgrounds later in the day.
The presence and inclusion of Indigenous culture is a welcome treat, which MNBC hopes to contribute to moving forward. Métis community is at the heart of what MNBC stands for, and grassroots initiatives such as this are the stepping stones in a process described as Wahkohtowin (kinship).
