Youth Eco Retreat

The Ministry of Youth is thrilled to offer this exciting opportunity to Métis youth and young adults to join us at our Youth Eco Retreat, taking place on the traditional territories of the Stó:lō and Similkameen First Nations at Manning Park Resort from October 25-27, 2024. A select number of participants will be awarded this unique experience!

This retreat is designed for Métis youth and young adults who are passionate about climate action. Participants will have the chance to connect deeply with the land, learn Métis ways of being from BCMNR Captains and Elders, and lead efforts to protect nature.

With limited spots available, interested Métis youth and young adults must either apply or be nominated to participate.

The deadline for applications and nominations is September 27, 2024. We look forward to welcoming them to this transformative retreat at Manning Park!

Eligibility
Between the ages of 15-30, living in BC
Self-identifying as Métis or MNBC Citizen
Be involved in environmental activities such as beach/creek/trails cleanup, leading environmental related activities, caring for a community garden, etc.
Able to write up an essay (Approx. 500 words), to talk about how they contribute their time and work to Community in environmental action
Eco Collective participants who did not have a chance to complete 35 volunteer hours are welcome to apply

Do I have to nominated, or can I apply myself? 

  • You can apply yourself! If you are a Métis Youth, aged 15-30 who is passionate about environmental action.

I am not Métis youth or young adult, can I nominate a Métis youth or young adult for this retreat? 

  • Yes, anyone can nominate a Métis youth or young adult for this retreat.

Do nominees/applicants have to be involved in environmental action activities to be nominated? 

  • Yes, the nominee/applicant must demonstrate their contribution and care in environmental action in community such as beach/creek/trails cleanup, leading environmental related activities, caring for a community garden, etc.

Do nominees/applicants need to be a member of the Eco Collective? 

  • No, all Métis youth and young adults, ages 15-30, who are passionate about environmental action are eligible for nomination.

I am part of the Eco Collective, and I HAVE completed 35 volunteer hours, will I need to apply for the trip?

  • No, all Eco Collective members who have completed 35 volunteer hours are automatically awarded a spot on the retreat.

I am part of the Eco Collective, and I HAVE NOT completed 35 volunteer hours, will I need to apply for the trip?

  • Yes, Eco Collective members who have not completed at least 35 volunteer hours will be need to apply for the trip. 

If selected, will I need to pay for the retreat?

  • No, MNBC will cover all costs associated with the retreat. 

Can I just pay to come on the retreat?

  • No, spots on this retreat will be awarded to Métis youth and young adults who are passionate and active in environmental action in their community. 

Do nominees need to be MNBC Citizens?

  • No, nominees can self-identify as Métis.
