Description
The Ministry of Youth in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Heritage and Language invite Métis youth between 15-30 years old (recommended 19-30) to learn basic Southern Michif phrases and enjoy the outdoor activities at the Strathcona Park Lodge in Campbell River, BC. Join us August 18-21 for an epic experience!
**Travel and accommodations will be provided to eligible Métis youth residing in BC. Seats are limited.**
Attendees will have an opportunity to:
- Learn Southern Michif with Samson LaMontagne
- Enjoy outdoor activities including zip-lining and canoeing
- Disconnect from technology, spend time in nature
- Make new friends!
Who is Eligible to Attend?
- MNBC Youth citizens / self-identified Métis in BC
- Between 15-30 years old residing in BC
- Interested in learning some basic phrases in Southern Michif and connecting with Métis culture
Registration Procedures
Upon registering for Métis Youth Michif Camp, you are responsible to respond to all emails and communications from the event coordinators. All forms from MNBC must be completed in full. Please check your schedule before submitting your registration form to ensure you are available for all event dates, inclusive of travel. Please note that the completion of this form does not mean you are accepted to attend. A coordinator will be in contact with youth confirmed to attend by July 14.
Travel and Accommodation
Please ensure information on the form below is complete, and that your travel and preferences are clearly stated. Once your registration forms have been submitted, you will be contacted by the coordinator to arrange your travel booking. You must be available to travel August 18-21, 2023. The accommodation is remote and rustic as it is built on the purpose of standing close to Mother Nature. If you require special travel accommodation, please contact youth@mnbc.ca.
Travel will be booked in the most cost effective and efficient manner and rooms may be double occupancy. Once travel has been purchased, it cannot be cancelled, refunded or moved to another person. You will be responsible for repayment of travel costs to MNBC if you choose to cancel unless you provide a valid reason for cancellation. As we would like to offer the opportunity to as many Métis youth as possible, it is important that you understand that once registered, you must attend.
Additional Information
- For participants travelling by car, only the driver will be paid the mileage reimbursement, no receipt required.
- Participants will be financially responsible for any fees due to flight changes or cancellation.
- For participants travelling by plane, you MUST HAVE (1) pieces of valid picture ID in order to board the plane. (Example: A driver’s license, passport) Please make sure to check-in at least 1.5 hour before flight.
