- Position: Pharmacy Technician
Hello my name is Lyndie,
The Metis Employment and Training program played a huge role in helping me finally decide to go back to school and train in the career field of Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician course has been an interest of mine since I graduated high school back in 2000.
After many years of trying to decide what career was right for me, I finally decided to pursue this dream. The financial burden of post ‐ secondary education has always been a factor in why I was never able to go back to school. With the help of the Metis Nation, I was able to take the Pharmacy Technician course through Selkirk College and focus strictly on my studies while not having to worry about the financial strain that comes along with it.
I started the eleven month Pharmacy Technician program in September 2014, which consisted of eight months of online training and seven weeks of on campus practical training. I also had to complete a two month practicum in both a hospital and a community pharmacy setting. Two weeks after I finished the program completely, I was able to secure a position at the hospital where I did my practicum. I now work for Vancouver Island Health Authority as a Pharmacy Assistant at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria.
I would like to thank the Metis employment and Training program for their help and financial support during this very challenging yet rewarding phase in my life.
