Special Statement from MNBC Board of Directors

January 19, 2021

The Board of Directors for the Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) wish to apprise you of an important decision we took yesterday. The Board has voted to suspend Clara Morin Dal Col of her duties as President effective January 18, 2021.

This was not a decision taken lightly by the Board. However, due to Ms. Dal Col’s recent contravention of the Oath of Office, and the breach of our policies and procedures, the Board was left with no other option but to issue a suspension.

Pursuant to Article 25 of the Constitution, a person may be suspended from the Board of Directors with or without pay, by a simple majority vote of the Board. A person who is suspended may appeal the suspension to the Senate whose decision shall be final and binding.

Pursuant to Article 26 of the Constitution, Vice-President Lissa Smith is directed to serve as Acting President pending any appeal filed by Ms. Dal Col.

Your Board of Directors remains 100% committed to supporting our Chief Executive Officer, the senior management team and all the valuable employees of MNBC. We will also continue working closely with our federal and provincial government partners, as well as our Chartered Communities to deliver the important programs and services our people have come to expect from MNBC.

Together, we will work as a united Nation to support our communities and citizens over the years to come.
