MNBC is conducting a Housing Needs Assessment Survey

Métis Nation BC (MNBC) has ambitious plans to build affordable housing and to develop housing programs and policies across BC over the coming years. The first step is for MNBC’s Ministry of Housing and Homelessness to conduct a Housing Needs Assessment to determine the housing needs of Métis people across BC. Once MNBC has a better understanding of housing needs, the second step is to build housing and develop housing programs that address the needs of Métis people across BC.

In order to assess the housing needs of Métis people in the province, MNBC is conducting a Housing Needs Assessment Survey from July 15 to August 15, 2021. You can access the survey HERE. What is a Housing Needs Assessment?

The Housing Needs Assessment is a data-gathering project that will allow MNBC to better understand Métis people’s current and future housing needs. The Assessment consists of data collection (i.e. survey), community consultation, data analysis, and reporting. It will ask questions across the housing spectrum, including questions for renters and homeowners.

What are the expected outcomes of the Housing Needs Assessment?

The information gathered will be used to help the MNBC Ministry of Housing and Homelessness gain a better understanding of current and future housing needs. This will help MNBC develop new affordable housing projects and housing support programs across BC. It is expected over the coming years that MNBC will develop housing and housing programs across the housing continuum.

What type of survey questions will I be asked?

Some of the survey questions include:

  • How satisfied are you with your existing housing?
  • Are you spending more than 30% of your income on housing?
  • Does your housing need minor or major repairs?
  • What type of housing programs do you currently use, or could use in the future (i.e. rent supplement program or home renovation grant program)? and
  • Other questions related to your specific housing needs.

Who’s involved in the Housing Needs Assessment?

The Housing Needs Assessment is managed by the MNBC Ministry of Housing and Homeless. The Ministry has engaged Big River Analytics, an interdisciplinary team of economists, statisticians, and web developers to conduct the assessment.
