Métis Nation British Columbia is excited to announce the first-ever Métis Youth (MY) Parliamentary Forum taking place at the Provincial Legislature in Victoria, BC, on February 4th– 6th, 2022.
In this inaugural gathering, like-minded Métis Youth will exchange ideas and debate issues of importance to them and learn how to confidently bring those issues forward to leaders in government and within the Métis Nation. The MY Parliamentary Forum will provide Métis Youth with the opportunity to receive governance training, experience the atmosphere of the Provincial Legislature, learn parliamentary etiquette, procedures and protocols, draft bills to debate policies and resolutions, practice mock debates of legislation, and develop their public speaking skills.
“The MYBC Committee is so excited to be offering the largest Métis Youth gathering in MNBC’s history and have it be on such an important topic to so many of us and our future,” says Shaughn Davoren, MNBC Minister of Youth and Provincial Youth Chair. “During this forum, we will be talking about and debating issues that affect Youth all over BC. Métis Youth will get a chance to draft the most prominent issues into resolutions that will be put forward at the following Métis Nation Governing Assembly (MNGA). This forum will truly allow Métis Youth to speak on their own behalf and have those issues go directly to the MNGA. I can’t wait to see you there!”
The MY Parliamentary Forum is designed to encourage and support Métis Youth to get involved and learn about the parliamentary process, as well as to provide them with the tools to become leaders in advancing self-government for the Métis Nation. MNBC voted for self-government at the 2020 AGM and is currently discussing self-government agreements with the Province of BC and the Government of Canada.
If you or someone you know is a Métis Youth between the ages of 15-30 years old and living in BC and would like more information on the MY Parliamentary Forum, please email: email@example.com
