Government of Canada announces COVID-19 funding for Indigenous communities

Today, the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Indigenous Services, on behalf of the Government of Canada, announced $305-million to support Indigenous Peoples during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This funding will be available to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities, as well as Métis living in urban centres, on an application basis. The funding is being made available through the Indigenous Community Support Fund.

We are pleased to see this additional funding being made available to Métis governments Canada-wide, including Métis Nation BC (MNBC), which represents 21,000 Métis citizens and 90,000 Métis people in the province. We will work closely with the Métis National Council to ensure MNBC receives its fair share of funding.

Specific information of how the money will be divided among the various indigenous communities are still forthcoming. As more details become available, we will apprise the Métis community in BC. Be sure to follow our social media channels to be made aware of news as we receive it.
