AGM 2020 Postponed
Over the past few weeks we have seen the number of cases of COVID-19 spike in BC. We have also had an increasing number of Board Directors, Community leaders and Citizens call for MNBC to postpone our upcoming AGM scheduled for September 25th and 26th in Richmond.
MNBC staff have been in touch with both the Office of the Provincial Health Officer and WorkSafeBC throughout the AGM planning process to ensure the hybrid AGM plans were in compliance with Provincial Health Orders, and that these plans would serve to keep everyone safe. That said, the reality is many of our Citizens, including many elders and veterans, would not have been able to attend.
Given this unique set of circumstances, earlier today MNBC staff recommended to the Board that they approve an emergency motion which would permit us to cease any further work on the September AGM and to have it postponed to a later date. It was also recommended that staff undertake a consultation with our Chartered Communities and the Métis Nation Governing Assembly to determine our next steps.
The motion was adopted by the Board and the AGM has now been postponed until further notice.
We want to apologize to all those who had registered to attend and staff will be reaching out to you soon to discuss a possible reimbursement for any trip cancellation fees you may have incurred.
To those Citizens who wrote to us and posted on social media regarding your concerns about the AGM, we thank you for your feedback. We look forward to working with you as we continue to ‘think out of the box’ and begin planning for a safe, secure and inclusive AGM sometime in the months to come
