Community Meetings and Events Near You

MNBC Communications Memo to all Métis Members and Citizens:

Due to the Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic, please note, many, if not all of the following events have or will be postponed.  If you plan to attend, please contact them directly to ensure the meeting/event is still scheduled.

Chilliwack Métis Association responds to COVID-19

Tansi Chilliwack Metis Citizens,

Yesterday the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that COVID-19 has escalated from public health crisis to pandemic. In plain language this means the public health priority has shifted from preventing the spread of the virus to slowing it down so that our healthcare system does not get overwhelmed by too many infections happening concurrently.
The Governing Executive of the Chilliwack Metis Association notifies that effective immediately and until at least May 1 of 2020:

  • All non-essential Chilliwack Metis Gatherings/events will be postponed.
  • All Community potlucks will be suspended.
  • All Cultural nights are to be postponed.

If there are any citizens that become in a situation of self-quarantine, please reach out to us and we can help arrange for food and staples to be delivered to your home.  This can be done by emailing us through our website:  www.chilliwackmetisassociation.ca.

Pandemic response is a collective responsibility and we all have a part to play in “flattening the curve”.  As a Community, your Executive recommends that cancelling non-essential gatherings is the best course of action at this time.
In the meantime, here are three things you can do:

  • Do your part to “flatten the curve”. Even if you are in a low-risk group, I urge you to take precautions not just to avoid getting infected with or spreading COVID-19, but also to avoid burdening our healthcare system during the pandemic.
  • Listen to experts. The rumors about COVID-19—from transmission to prevention to treatment—are spreading faster than the virus itself. I urge you to rely on the Office of the Provincial Health Officer and the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) for reliable and up-to-date COVID-19 information as it affects British Columbians.
  • Stay tuned to:  http://www.bccdc.ca/

Chi-meegwetch & prayers for the health of our Community,
Louis De Jaeger

May be postponed - please contact PGMCA for further information.
