Province of BC Proclaims November 16 "Louis Riel Day"

Métis Flag Raised At the BC Legislature

For the 2nd year in a row, the blue and white Infinity flag of the Métis Nation was raised at the BC Legislature precisely at sunrise this morning. MNBC President Clara Morin Dal Col along with John Rustad, Minister for Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation and Parliamentary Secretary for Métis Relations Marc Dalton presided over the significant event. MNBC President was joined by other Métis leaders in raising the flag. President Morin Dal Col said, “This is a special day for all Métis in British Columbia when our flag is raised here at the Legislature and the day is proclaimed “Louis Riel Day”. Marc Dalton, speaking on behalf of the Government remarked on the importance of the occasion and read out the special proclamation signed by the Lieutenant Governor proclaiming today being “Louis Riel Day” in British Columbia.

Joining the special ceremony this morning was MNBC Vice President Lissa Smith, Provincial Chair of the Métis Women Victoria Pruden, former MNBC President Bruce Dumont, President of the Métis Nation of Greater Victoria Patrick Harriot, Métis Women Veterans Representative Barb Hulme, Carole James of the Official Opposition, MNBC and MARR staff.
