Surrey, BC (October 23, 2019)
– A delegation of Métis Nation B.C. (MNBC) leaders attending the Manitoba Métis Federation's annual celebration of Louis Riel's birth in Winnipeg witnessed the Royal Canadian Mint’s unveiling of a special edition proof dollar marking the 175th anniversary of the birth of Louis Riel.

It was an honour and truly proud moment to see Métis history now etched forever in Canadian history,” says MNBC President Clara Morin Dal Col. “The commemorative coin is an important recognition of a great Métis Nation leader and Canadian, and as a Métis woman and leader of a growing Métis Nation, it is another reason to be kischee tey mo’ yawn aen li Michif wi’yawn (proud to be Métis).”

MNBC President Clara Morin Dal Col, Vice President Lissa Smith, MWBC Provincial Chair Victoria Pruden, B.C. Regional Directors Gary Biggar, Marilynn Taylor, Walter Mineault and B.C. Métis Chartered Community Leaders Myrtle Servatius and Jacqueline Alderking were present for the celebration and unveiling of the silver dollar, the first coin produced by the Royal Canadian Mint to be engraved with Michif, the official language of the Métis Nation.
