On June 25th, 2019 Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) President Clara Morin Dal Col, and Fraser Health Board Chair, Jim Sinclair, signed a Letter of Understanding (LOU). The LOU outlines a commitment to work together and ensure Métis representation at decision making tables and Métis specific approaches within the health care setting.
MNBC Minister of Health, Susie Hooper, and President and CEO of Fraser Health, Dr. Victoria Lee, witnessed the signing and gift exchange.
MNBC President Morin Dal Col commented: “As Métis National Council’s Minister for Health, and the President of Métis Nation British Columbia, I am excited to sign off on our Letter of Understanding between MNBC and Fraser Health today. We look forward to the collective work ahead of us as we come together to ensure that the planning and delivery of health programs and services to Métis individuals, families and communities within the Fraser Health region are accessible and culturally appropriate.”
“Fraser Health is proud to celebrate our new relationship with Métis Nation of BC as distinct and equal partners in the Fraser region,” said Jim Sinclair, Board Chair, Fraser Health. “This letter of understanding we’re signing today demonstrates our firm commitment to the Métis Nation and we look forward to continuing our work to deliver culturally safe health services to more than 25,055 self-identifying Métis people in our communities.”
Following the signing, Métis Chartered Communities joined Leadership in a gift exchange and photo opportunities. Attendees stayed to enjoy traditional Métis fiddling and bannock to celebrate the signing.
The signing of this LOU demonstrates the deep commitment and positive relationship between Fraser Health and Métis Nation British Columbia, and the commitment to improving the health of Métis Chartered Communities within Fraser Health.
