Historic Partnership Signing for Métis Children, Youth and Families

Posted by on

On October 13, 2017 the Métis Nation British Columbia signed an historic Memorandum of Understanding with the Federation of Community Social Services of British Columbia (FCSSBC). The partnership focuses on bringing and keeping our Métis children, youth, and families home through distinction-based, Métis specific services and the development of Métis institutions in the province.

As MNBC's Minister for Children and Families, Daniel Pitman, noted: "I am concerned about the overrepresentation of our children in the foster care system. I want these numbers reduced. I want to see our children connected to their family, our people, our community, and our Nation. Our partnership with the Federation of Community Social Services of BC focuses on furthering a distinction-based approach to Métis children and family services. We are excited to work with the FCSSBC and their extensive network to bring our children back home and to keep them with our people."
