Celebrated on March 8th every year, International Women's Day is a day dedicated to honouring the achievements of women throughout history and all across the globe. March 8th is typically a day for women from all different backgrounds and cultures to band together to fight for gender parity and women's rights. This year’s theme is “An equal world is an enabled world”. “Taanishi aen ishiwapatmihk, Aen paray li moond aantyii” means, we envision an equal world in Michif, and we envision a world in which our girls and youth enjoy more equality, safety, and opportunity than ever before.
Métis Women – BC (MW-BC) Committee recently attended Les Femmes Michif Otipemisiwak’s (LFMO) 3.5-day Métis Women’s Forum at the Hilton Lac-Leamy Hotel in Gatineau from March 3rd to 6th, 2020. Metis Women from across the Nation discussed a variety of topics, to help inform strategic priorities and policies from a grass-roots Métis Women’s perspective.
In Gatineau, MW-BC was pleased to welcome Sheila Lewis as their new MNBC Provincial Women’s Coordinator. Sheila joins the Metis Women – BC Committee, and our strong Metis Women and leaders of MNBC, in wishing all Women a very happy International Women’s Day! #IWD2020 #EachforEqual
