Métis Nation BC (MNBC) is offering Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 First Aid Training for Métis Citizens.

Level 1 First Aid

This two day certification course is for anyone wishing to work as a Level 1 first aid attendant in BC or looking to better their first aid skills for work place or home. Anyone wishing to work as an emergency first-aider in Alberta, police, first responders, lifeguards, ski patrollers and caring citizens.

Level 2 First Aid

Occupational First Aid Level 2 (OFA 2) is a 36 hour program (excluding breaks) designed to provide the first aid attendant with the necessary skills to function as part of an effective first aid program in the work place.  Successful participants will be qualified to work as WorkSafeBC OFA Level 2 first aid attendants.  OFA Level 2 also meets the requirements for the Canada Labour Code (Standard First Aid).

Level 3 First Aid

Occupational First Aid Level 3 (OFA 3) is a 70 hour (excluding breaks) program designed for remote worksites or employers with large workforces more than 20 minutes from medical aid.  Successful participants will be qualified to work as a WorkSafeBC OFA Level 3 first aid attendant.  Initial certification requires full participation and course attendance plus successful completion of both written and practical exams (held on the last day of the course). OFA Level 3 meets the requirements for the Canada Labour Code (Advanced First Aid) and the Alberta Human Services OH&S Policy (Advanced First Aid).

Is there any portion of this course that is not FREE? The tuition for this course is free however students will be on their own for transportation and lunches.

Is there any age restrictions? No, students under the age of 17 will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Are there any pre-requisites for this course? No pre-requisites required.

Do you have to be a Métis Citizen to apply or can you apply if you self identify? Citizens and self identifying Métis will be given first response to applications. Anyone who is aboriginal background is welcome to apply for open seats.

Do you have to be Métis at all to apply? Yes, this program is specifically targeted for Métis Citizens and Self Identifying Métis. 

Where does the training take place?  This training is open. The goal is to find open spots in training programs closest for citizens or self identified Métis wanting training.  Example: if living in Kamloops and you want your level one first aid, MNBC will find a program already running for that certificate i.e St Johns Ambulance or similar companies. MNBC will enrol you and Pay the fees. If living in Surrey or Vancouver and you are looking to take part in one of these programs MNBC will do the same here in the lower mainland. It is an open placement program for any Métis looking for first aid training for work or personal life.
