2018 Métis Women BC Annual General Meeting
-
Métis women’s representatives from all over BC gathered for the MWBC Annual General Meeting in Richmond, BC on September 14th, 2018. Forty-eight women were in attendance, from 29 of the 38 chartered MNBC communities. The MWBC Provincial Chair was in attendance, as were six of the seven Regional Métis Women’s Representatives. Through a successful grant application with the Status of Women Canada and Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada, a Director of Women was hired.
Topics at the AGM included lateral kindness, gender-based analysis, governing structure of the MWBC and next steps for MWBC.
A World Café was completed to gather feedback from women covering eight topics – Education, Economic Development and Employment; Health and Wellness; Housing, Food Security and Poverty; Culture, Language, Heritage; Children and Families; Metis Rights, Land Use and Harvesting; MWBC & MNBC; and Women’s Safety. MWBC will be using the World Café report to fulfil the requirements of the current grants, as well as using it as a guide for the next two funding years and into the future.
In February 2019, a Women’s Conference will be held to gather more data and to be providing opportunities for local women’s representatives to build capacity by attending sessions based on initial feedback noted in the report created from the MWBC AGM.
Details on the February conference and a community grant opportunity from MWBC will be distributed to communities soon.
