"After graduating from Vancouver Island University's Community Mental Health Worker program, I was struggling to find employment in my chosen field. Because of this, I began working with Josh D., Youth Employment and Training Coordinator at MNBC. Josh utilized an encouraging, person-centered, and strengths-based approach to helping me work on my resume and cover letter. He also helped me with job searching and doing a mock interview. As well, I attended presentations on local organizations that he facilitated. Via his connection with a recruiter at Vancouver Coastal Health, my application for a role was highlighted among a high volume of other applicants, and I was offered an interview, followed by a position. I am now employed full-time as a Mental Health Rehabilitation Worker. I am grateful for Josh's support throughout this process. He helped me to fill a gap in knowledge and skills that I know Métis folks may disproportionately experience as a result of intergenerational poverty and colonialism.
