Our Ministry: Housing and Homelessness
On July 19, 2018, the Métis Nation as represented by the Métis National Council and its governing members signed the Canada-Métis Nation Housing sub-accord. Through the sub-accord on housing, the design, delivery, and administration of housing services will be undertaken by the governing members of the Métis Nation. In British Columbia (BC) this project is being led by the Métis Nation British Columbia Ministry of Housing & Homelessness.
Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) aims to reduce Métis core housing needs in BC by 50% over five years. The Ministry of Housing & Homelessness intends to accomplish this goal through:
- Targeted research and engagement that will identify the distinct housing needs of Métis in BC,
- Development of culturally relevant affordable housing and social infrastructure and,
- The administration of invaluable housing support programs to assist our most vulnerable citizens.
MNBC is working to ensure a safe place for every Métis to call home. We are committed to ensuring our people have access to affordable housing and our seniors are venerated and given the opportunity to age-in-place with dignity. We also strive to prevent homelessness as well as help those who have been directly impacted by it.
