- Position: Red Seal Journeyman
Ryan's Story ‐ "Thank you to all who have helped me through my journey".
I started my apprenticeship in Prince Rupert taking my 1st, 2nd and 3rd year schooling in Northwest Community College. During the time of my apprenticeship I worked in Prince Rupert. When times were slow in our area, I travelled to Fort McMurray in a camp facility working as an apprentice.
I had some obstacles during my second year, as I had a lot of trouble with Employment Insurance (EI) and getting disqualified during my course. My family had to support me and it was very upsetting to my schooling. I had to go to an appeal process and with great difficulty and time consuming my family and I had to experience a lot of stress. In the end we won the case and I continued to finish my schooling for that year. I continued to work back in Prince Rupert for my final year before I ventured off to Victoria for my 4th and final year. I had to enroll in Victoria because my schooling didn’t offer the schedule I needed in Prince Rupert as now the school had moved to Terrace. They too were not offering the schedule I needed.
So off to Victoria to complete my last year at Camosun College. I did find that schooling and living in Victoria was very expensive as I have been very lucky to have had my 3 other years of schooling in my community. I finished my last and final year and I have also completed my IP (inter provincial) ticket which qualifies me to work in any Province in Canada.
I am presently working in Kitimat and I am a full Journeyman with a RED SEAL, since April 2014.
I would like to thank MNBC for sponsoring me during my Apprenticeship and Darcy Petuh from Northwest MNBC in Terrace, BC for endless hours of helping me get through this career. I couldn’t have made it through this alone. Darcy have given me a chance through MNBC to get where I am today, Thank you to all who have helped me through my journey.
