Northeast & Interior Regional Sport & Physical Activity Coordinators - Employment Notice

Due to an insufficient number of applications received from the Northeast and Interior, the Partners Council has made the decision to re-open the application process for the positions of Regional Sport & Physical Activity Coordinator, for these two regions only.

Funding boost through Sport Legacy to Aboriginal youth

KAMLOOPS - The Province is investing $1.5 million over three years toward programs targeted to improve healthy living for Aboriginal youth through sport and recreation announced Ida Chong, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.

Coach.caThe Coaching Association of Canada's Aboriginal Coach Development Program is hosting an Aboriginal Learning Facilitator training session for the Aboriginal Coach Manual (ACM). This training session will be held August 24 to August 28, 2011 with August 24 and 28 identified as travel dates; location to be determined at a later date. Successful candidates will be trained under experienced Aboriginal Master Learning Facilitators.

Aboriginal youth teams are invited to compete for the Aboriginal Provincial title at this inaugural BC Aboriginal Provincial Championship event*! This event is for teams of Aboriginal youth (First Nations, Inuit, Métis). Players must be residents of BC. Team registration is open - No pre-qualification required. Male and female teams in the following age categories: 13U (born 1998-2001); 16U (born 1995-1997); 18U (born 1993-1994).
Registration fee $250/team.

The Partners Council is conducting a total of 6 Regional Workshops across the province and is inviting

everyone involved with Aboriginal Sport, Recreation, Physical Activity and Health Promotion in their communities to participate!

This workshop is a great opportunity to influence the direction of new funding resources available to your region for sport, recreation and physical activity projects. This unique networking session aims to engage all age groups interested in healthy living for themselves, friends, families and community!

Discussion will include:

  • Progress on the implementation of the Aboriginal Sport, Recreation and Physical Activity Strategy
  • Long term planning and priority setting for regional/community sport, recreation and physical activity
  • Developing an Annual Regional Action Plan & Establishing Regional Oversight

      Notes

      • Please complete and submit the attached Registration Form by the deadline listed above to reserve your place at the Workshop.
      • All workshops are 1.5 days in length and begin at 5:30pm (registration) the first evening with Prayer and Introductions at 6pm and Dinner served at 6:15pm (9pm marks the end of the first day). Workshops reconvene 9am to 4 pm on the second day (breakfast and lunch provided).
      • A limited number of travel subsidies and accommodations are available for those travelling more than 200 km total.

2011 BCAboriginal Provincial Championships & Sport Development Camps

The Aboriginal Sport, Recreation and Physical Activity Partners Council (Partners Council) is pleased to announce the launch of the 2011 BC Aboriginal Provincial Championships and Sport Development Camps. The Championships and Development Camps will be held throughout the summer in a variety of communities across British Columbia.

The BC Aboriginal Provincial Championships and Sport Development Camps are an important component of the Partners Council's Provincial Strategy for Aboriginal Sport, Recreation and Physical Activity. The events provide a unique opportunity for Aboriginal athletes and coaches from First Nations, Métis Chartered Communities and Friendship Centres throughout the province to gather and compete in events that promote sport excellence while celebrating cultural unity and pride.

Sport & Active Living Leadership for Aboriginal Youth

The Aboriginal Sports Recreation and Physical Activity Partners Council (Partners Council) is accepting applications from Aboriginal youth ages 14-24 (as of March 21, 2011) to attend our Sport & Active Living Leadership for Aboriginal Youth (S.A.L.L.) as part of Gathering Our Voices (G.O.V) Aboriginal Youth Conference, March 21-24, 2011 in Prince Rupert BC.

A total of 18 youth will be selected to attend, with three youth selected from each of the 6 Partners Council Regions (North West, North East, Vancouver Coastal, Fraser, Interior, Vancouver Island). Two youth alternates per Region will also be identified.

AYSLF High Performance Athlete Grant

High Performance Athlete Assistance Grants are available for amateur athletes of Aboriginal ancestry, including Aboriginal athletes with a disability, who require financial assistance in their pursuit of sport excellence. The amount of individual grants varies according to the number of eligible applications received.

The Girls Only Incentive Program

The Girls Only Incentive Program is a partnership between ProMOTION Plus and the BC Recreation and Parks Association and is supported by 2010 Legacies Now and the Federal Government. The Girls Only Incentive Program grant was developed to provide opportunities to participate in sport for non-active girls and women of all ages in all regions of BC.

  • Eligible programs can be focussed on a single sport or designed to provide exposure to a multi-sport experience for girls and/or women
  • Funding is available for new programs and enhancements for existing programs
  • Funding is available to a maximum of $2,500 for one program
  • An organization may apply for Girls Only Incentive Program Grants for more than one program

Eligible Applicants:

  • Municipal recreation departments in British Columbia
  • Community associations which provide sport and/or recreation programs
  • Not for profit societies and organizations which provide sport and/or recreation programs

KidSport 2010 Grants available to help kids get involved!

The cost of organized sports can be a barrier to participation and limit the choices for some families. With the help of dedicated supporters, KidSport works to fulfill its mission of eliminating the financial barriers to sport participation, "So All Kids Can Play!" Kids have the opportunity to reach their highest potential when they have access to physical activity, which can positively impact physical health, development of social skills, self-esteem, and friendships. Established by Sport BC in 1993, KidSport is a community-based sport funding program that provides grants for children aged 6 to18 to participate in a sport season of their choice. Up to $1200 Available - Investors Group Community Coaching Conferences Grants

Are you planning to organize a community coach gathering for learning, networking, introduction to the NCCP program and/or volunteer recognition? You may be eligible for $600-$1200 towards your expenses to do so!

Conditions:

  • The conference be designed to attract community coaches.
  • The conference program includes a variety of workshops and a keynote address.
  • Investors Group receives appropriate recognition as a sponsor of the program in all printed material, in media coverage, and in any forms of advertising.
  • An Investors Group Volunteer Sport Administrator Award (provided by Investors Group) be presented to a volunteer sport administrator during the conference.
  • The organizing committee chairperson communicates regularly with CAC.

Support provided:

  • IG and CAC logos
  • IG banner for use during the conference
  • IG Volunteer Sport Administrator trophy for your selected winner
  • Kit folders with IG and CAC program materials. Can be used for adding in your own materials.

Invites you to participate in a 2 Day Regional Planning Workshop on the implementation of BC's new Strategy for Aboriginal Sports, Recreation and Physical Activity

The Partners Council is conducting 7 Regional Workshops across the province and is inviting Aboriginal sports, recreation, physical activity, and health leaders to attend and participate in a new structured regional engagement and project coordination process for BC.

The following are the preliminary dates for the 7 Regional Engagement Workshops that will be delivered through the months of April and May please retain the ASRPAPC workshop schedule for your respective region. Each region will receive a registration package that is specific to that region via email.
