Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) is enhancing its support for Métis students in healthcare through a new $5,000 bursary, made possible with funding from the Government of British Columbia through our Ministry of Skills Training, Employment and Post Secondary (STEPS). This initiative aims to reduce financial barriers for MNBC citizens pursuing nursing programs across the province.
The bursary is open to MNBC citizens enrolled in Graduate, Undergraduate, or Licensed Practical Nursing programs within British Columbia. Applications for this financial support will open on October 20, 2024.
Supporting Métis Healthcare Workforce Development
This bursary is part of MNBC’s broader efforts to support Métis students and strengthen healthcare across the province and within Métis communities.
Eligibility for the Bursary Includes:
MNBC Citizenship and proof of BC residency
Enrollment in a Nursing program for the current academic year
“We are grateful for the funding from the Government of British Columbia, which allows us to support Métis nursing students in achieving their educational and career goals,” said Colette Trudeau, Chief Executive Officer of Métis Nation British Columbia. “Our aim is to increase the number of Métis nurses in BC, providing access to safe, compassionate, and culturally responsive care for all British Columbians.”
About the Bursary
The $5,000 bursary is considered taxable income but does not count toward a student’s lifetime financial aid maximum. It helps students manage tuition and living expenses, offering greater stability as they focus on their health studies.
By providing this financial support, MNBC is committed to empowering more Métis individuals to join the healthcare sector, ensuring that Métis communities have access to nurses who understand their unique cultural context and needs.
